Chicago LIVE: 2020 Subaru Legacy

The seventh-generation Legacy borrows the Ascent's 2.4-liter turbo with 260 horsepower.

Subaru has unveiled the 2020 Legacy at the Chicago Auto Show, revamping the sedan for its seventh generation.

Riding on the modern Subaru Global Platform architecture, the all-new Legacy benefits from a more rigid chassis that increases stability and reduces road noise in the redesigned cabin.

Base models are powered by Subaru's 2.5-liter boxer engine with 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT for an estimated zero-to-60 mph benchmark of a modest 8.4 seconds. The company expects active grille shutters to help bump city/highway fuel economy to 27/35 mpg.

Higher trim levels are equipped with the Ascent's 2.4-liter turbocharged mill, jumping to 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. The additional twist helps bring the sedan up to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, with an estimated city/highway rating of 24/32 mpg.

The new Legacy's revamped interior centers around a tablet-style 11.6-inch Full HD multimedia display, the largest infotainment system ever in a Subaru. The company says the cabin is now 3 dB quieter at highway speeds, thanks to new door weatherstrips and improved sound insulation.

Pricing will be announced closer to the 2020 Legacy's fall arrival at US showrooms.
