South Africans get a 349-horsepower Subaru WRX STi
The WRX STi Diamond Edition is here to mark 30 years of Subaru's performance division.
Subaru is offering a special edition WRX STi to celebrate 30 years of Subaru Technica International, its in-house motorsports and performance division. The car adds a significant dollop of power, but unfortunately it will only be sold in the South African market.
The Subaru WRX STi Diamond Edition (perhaps Pearl Edition wasn't catchy enough for a 30th anniversary name?) is developed by Subaru of South Africa and takes the title for most powerful WRX STi model ever sold. Its 2.0-liter boxer motor generates 349 horsepower and 342 lb-ft of torque -- 44 more horses and 52 more lb-ft than the WRX STi sold in the US.
In addition, the Diamond Edition offers Brembo brakes with 6-piston calipers in front and 2-piston units on the rear wheels. A front spoiler, rear diffuser, and side skirts finished in highlighter yellow is unique to the exterior, while an engine brace offers more rigidity. Spacers push the wheels out by 20 mm.
If you want one, you'll have to pick it up in South Africa, and you'd better move fast. Only 30 examples will be offered for sale, and if you want one you can order it at the official STi30.co.za website.
