The Octavia vRS is the fastest street-legal Skoda ever built thanks to a GTI-sourced engine.
Volkswagen's Czech Republic-based Škoda division has published a short video that stars the new 2013 Octavia vRS. Now in its third generation, the Octavia vRS is a performance-focused, mid-size model that is offered as both a sedan and a roomy station wagon.
The Octavia vRS is can be ordered with one of two engines lifted from the Volkswagen parts bin. The first is a GTI-sourced 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder that churns out 220 horsepower, sending the car from zero to 62 mph in 6.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 154 mph. Thanks to the TSI mill, the gas-burning vRS is the fastest street-legal Škoda ever built.
Borrowed from the GTD, the second engine is a diesel-burning 2.0-liter TDI four-banger that churns out 184 horsepower. The sprint to 62 mph takes 8.1 seconds and maximum velocity is reached at 144 mph.
Both engines can be linked to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch unit. An automatic start/stop system and a brake energy recuperation system come standard to improve gas mileage.
Outside, the vRS gains a host of aerodynamic upgrades including more aggressive bumpers on both ends, a trunk-mounted spoiler and side skirts, while a blacked-out grille and two chromed exhaust tips add a finishing touch to the car's track-bred look. 17-inch alloys come standard, and three 18- and 19-inch designs are available as an option.
The interior offers sport seats, a model-specific instrument cluster, stainless steel pedals and a large serving of vRS logos. An available color touch screen groups the car's navigation, entertainment and climate control functions into a single easy-to-use unit.
The vRS' option list is long and includes a host of high-tech safety equipment such as Adaptive Cruise Assistant, Intelligent Light Assistant, Automatic Parking Assistant and a Traveler Assistant system that recognizes traffic signs. Keyless entry and a height-adjustable trunk floor are also available.
Equipped with a gas engine and a manual transmission, the 2013 Škoda Octavia vRS sedan carries a base price of £22,990 (about $34,700) in the United Kingdom. The diesel-burning model stickers for £23,260, a sum that converts to $35,000
