Renault planning off road-styled version of Clio subcompact

Renault's CAPTUR concept is said to preview a production off road-styled version of the automaker's Clio small car.

Renault will reportedly begin offering an all-wheel-drive off road-styled variant of its hugely popular Clio subcompact hatchback (pictured). Aimed at rivals like the Fiat Panda 4x4, the Clio won't be a serious off roader, but it should offer a unique style for urban buyers and a bit more capability for those who really need it.

France's BFM radio says that the car will be previewed by Renault's new CAPTUR concept car, which is set to debut next week at the Geneva Motor Show. The CAPTUR is based on the Nissan Juke, which rides on Renault-NIssan's extended wheelbase version of the Clio's platform.

According to BFM, the Clio will be more conservatively styled and it will be offered in both three and five-door versions. A launch is planned for 2012 and the car will be built both in France and Turkey.
