Paris LIVE: 2017 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid

The E-Hybrid can drive on electricity alone for 30 miles.

Porsche has already expanded the lineup with a fuel-sipping hybrid model.

The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid uses a plug-in hybrid drivetrain made up of a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine bolted to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, an electric motor, and a liquid-cooled 14.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. All told, the drivetrain sends 462 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels.

The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid hits 62 mph from a stop in 4.6 seconds, and it goes on to a top speed of 172 mph. Alternatively, it can drive on electricity alone for up to 31 miles at speeds of up to 86 mph.

Charging the battery pack takes 5.8 hours when it's plugged into a standard, European-spec 230-volt outlet. An optional quick charger lowers that figure to 3.6 hours.

It takes a well-trained eye to tell the E-Hybrid apart from other Panamera variants at a glance. The changes are largely limited to model-specific exhaust tips, as well as green emblems on both doors and on the hatch. The sedan also gets a hybrid-specific instrument cluster that provides key information such as how much juice is left in the battery.

The Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid will go on sale in Europe next April, and it will touch down in the United States and in China shortly after. Pricing information and the EPA's fuel economy figures will be published closer to its on-sale date.
