Nissan's Altima-te AWD gains snow treads, ground clearance [Video]

by Justin King

The one-off sedan extends Nissan's infatuation with snow-track vehicles.

Nissan has revealed the Altima-te AWD, swapping the sedan's wheels for a set of snow tracks.

Like the Rogue Warrior, the Altima-te AWD has been outfitted with American Track Truck's Dominator track system. The tracks measure 48 inches long by 30 inches tall, requiring more extreme chassis and body modifications than the Rogue.

The builder had to stretch each fender by seven inches, widening the body width by 14 inches and accounting for the majority of the project's 250 man-hours. The team also had to raise the car by three inches and correct the modified suspension geometry.

"With the scarcity in the market of all-wheel drive configurations available on sedans, we wanted to make a statement to customers," says Nissan Canada president Joni Paiva. "The average person does not assume a sedan offers AWD."

Appropriately, the Altima-te AWD debuts at the Montreal International Auto Show before heading to other Canadian auto shows.
