Lotus prices Exige S Roadsterby Andrew Ganz
Lotus has dropped the sheet on its fastest ever convertible.
Nearly 15 months after debuting at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the Lotus Exige S Roadster is headed to dealerships in select global markets.
Although shoppers in North America won't be able to buy Lotus' newest droptop, the automaker has released pricing for the new Exige S Roadster for buyers in the United Kingtom, European Union and Japan.
Interestingly, the Exige S Roadster will be priced on par with its standard hardtop counterpart. That means that U.K. buyers will pay £52,900, Europeans will spend 55,378 Euros and Japanese would-be owners should be prepared to spend 8.5 million Yen. In the U.K. and Japan, those prices include VAT and standard taxes, while the European Union price is prior to any applicable local taxes.
Hailed as Lotus' fastest convertible ever, the Exige S Roadster also marks the first Exige model ever to come fitted with a factory soft top. Lotus says it opted for a soft top rather than a hard top as it saves weight and makes for easier operation.
The Exige S Roadster is powered by a supercharged 3.5L V6, netting a 0-60 run of just 3.8 seconds. The sprint to 100mph takes an equally blistering 8.5 seconds, with the Exige S Roadster eventually topping out at 145mph. The Exige S Roadster comes standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, but buyers can also opt for Lotus' Serial Precision Shift automated manual transmission.
The Exige S Roadster tips the scales at just 2,425 pounds, making it one of the lightest six-cylinder convertibles available today. That light weight means the Exige S Roadster is more than capable of tackling any track, while still returning a combined 28mpg.
Currently, Lotus has no plans to sell the Exige S Roadster in the U.S.
