Jeep recalls new Wrangler over track bar bracket weld failuresby Byron Hurd
Bracket weld failures can result in loss of steering precision.
Jeep dealers were informed Friday that a recall campaign is being launched to address track bar bracket welds on select 2018 Jeep Wranglers. Some examples left the factory with incorrectly positioned welds which can be susceptible to failure.
When the welds fail, the bracket (holding the front track bar) separates from the frame, reducing steering response.
Some owners of the JL-generation Wrangler have already reported failed welds in communities such as jl-forums.com, .
Owners can run their VINs through Mopar's recall database to find out whether their Wranglers are covered by the recall. From Jeep's communication, it appears the company plans to inspect and repair any faulty units.
Subaru's recent recall of its new three-row Ascent crossover required replacing vehicles entirely because the potentially missing welds were structural. That is not true in this case.
