The Hellcat-powered SUV was previewed during Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' annual dealer gathering in Las Vegas this week, according to . The company allegedly boasted of a zero-to-60 mph sprint in approximately 3.5 seconds.
The current Grand Cherokee SRT officially hits 60 mph from a stop in 4.8 seconds, thanks to its 6.4-liter naturally-aspirated HEMI V8 with 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Borrowed from the range-topping Charger and Challenger, the Hellcat engine will bump output up to 707 ponies and 650 lb-ft of twist, though earlier rumors claimed torque output would be reduced to accommodate the Grand Cherokee's four-wheel-drive system.
The range-topping Porsche Cayenne is claimed to reach 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, while the BMW X5 M is said to hit the benchmark speed in four seconds flat.
Recent reports suggest the Trackhawk has been approved for production, potentially sold alongside the existing configuration. The current SRT8 is the best-selling SRT-badged model in FCA's lineup.
