Jaguar ready to retire XJ, launch EV successor next year?

Design director Ian Callum last year promised the XJ would be replaced by "something quite special."

Jaguar's XJ sedan is reportedly nearing its retirement as the company looks toward a more electric future.

The current model will cease production on July 5, a decade after the eighth-generation arrived on the market, according to Autocar.

The company has confirmed that it will "continue the XJ nameplate," while design head Ian Callum last year promised the car would be succeeded by "something quite special."

Autocar claims the ninth-generation XJ will be reimagined as an all-electric sedan, positioned as a rival to the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan.

The XJ EV could arrive as early as next year.
