Hyundai teases Geneva-bound Intrado concept

by Ronan Glon

The Intrado will preview a production-bound hydrogen-burning drivetrain.

Hyundai has published a teaser sketch that previews a new concept called Intrado. Named after the bottom of an airplane's wing, the Intrado will greet the public for the first time at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show that will open its doors in a little over three months.

Inspired by Hyundai's new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, the Intrado takes the form of a tall crossover with sculpted body panels and a sleek roof line. Hyundai boldly states the concept is crafted out of advanced lightweight materials that will eventually trickle down to production vehicles and substantially change the way cars are built.

Although the automaker is keeping precise technical specs under wraps until a later date, it says the concept gets power from a hydrogen fuel cell that is lighter and more compact than the one found in the regular-production ix35 Fuel Cell. The crossover will be able to drive for over 365 miles between fill-ups and reach 62 mph from a stop in under 12.5 seconds.

Look for a full set of details about the Hyundai Intrado to emerge in the weeks leading up to its debut in Switzerland. While the crossover will likely remain at the concept stage, the drivetrain will accurately preview the next generation of Hyundai's hydrogen-burning vehicles.
