Ford files trademark for "Inflatable Light Urban Vehicle"
Is a foldable vehicle in Ford\'s future?
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has a new filing that suggests Ford could be working on something interesting.
Ford Inside News recently stumbled upon trademark 85882491, which was filed by the Ford Motor Company in mid-March for something called the "Inflatable Light Urban Vehicle.” There was also a trademark application of the "iLuv” name, which will presumably be the project's working name.
At this point little is known about Ford's iLuv project, but FIN speculates the vehicle could take the form of a foldable two- or three-wheeler meant for cramped European cities. The iLuv would most likely be powered by an electric drivetrain.
Although Ford has yet to expand into the micro-sized urban vehicle segment, several other automakers have ventured into the space, including General Motors with its EN-V concept and Renault's production Twizy. However, no automaker has yet experimented with foldable vehicles.
Ford is keeping quiet on the iLuv filing, but we'll be sure to keep our ear to the ground to bring you the latest developments.
