Cadillac CT6 plug-in hybrid gets 30 miles of electric range in US

Cadillac will begin selling the PHEV in US showrooms by spring 2017.

Cadillac has finally announced range and US launch details for its CT6 plug-in hybrid.

The luxury sedan is said to be capable of driving for up to 30 miles on electricity alone, offering approximately double the battery range of BMW's 330e and 740e xDrive.

The CT6's hybrid system integrates a dual-motor rear-wheel-drive electric variable transmission, paired with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Combined output reaches 335 horsepower and 432 lb-ft of torque, sending the sedan to 60 mph in an estimated 5.2 seconds.

On electricity alone, each electric motor produces 100 ponies and allows the car to cruise at speeds of up to 78 mph. Once the gasoline engine kicks in, drivers can keep on the pedal until they hit 150 mph.

The CT6 PHEV is due to arrive in North America by spring 2017, with a starting price of $76,090 (including $995 freight). The MSRP is more than $20,000 higher than the entry-level CT6 package.
