GM to ramp up Buick Encore production by 50 percentby Justin King
GM expects sales growth to continue, even as the Encore faces a surge of rivals.
General Motors is reportedly preparing to ramp up production once again, despite the imminent arrival of several segment rivals.
The company aims to increase factory output by approximately 50 percent to help pad inventories at US showrooms, Buick- GMC VP Duncan Aldred told in a recent interview.
The executive claims to have pushed hard to get more Encores, after the model achieved a 53-percent sales jump to nearly 49,000 units in 2014. He expects the small crossover to easily eclipse the Enclave this year to become the brand's top seller.
Quickly responding to growing demand is said to be challenging, requiring simultaneous output increases at the Encore's assembly factories in Korea, Mexico and Spain.
The segment will soon be flooded with alternatives, ranging from the Honda HR-V to GM's own Chevrolet Trax, however GM hopes the Encore's head start will give it an edge in the coming years.
