BMW shows Z4 M40i First Editionby Justin King
The latest Z can launch to 60 mph in under 4.4 seconds.
BMW has finally revealed its next-generation Z4 in production form, starting with the M40i First Edition.
The public already had a chance to see the new Z in leaked press photos, but the car is making its first official appearance at Pebble Beach.
The all-new Z4 retains its predecessor's overall proportions, transitioning to a fresh design language that better fits with the rest of BMW's current lineup. Vertically stacked headlights, a broad kidney grille and a long clamshell hood serve as the most distinct characteristics.
The M40i is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with enough power to launch the roadster to 60 mph in less than 4.4 seconds, though the specific output specs are being kept quiet for now.
The car is packed with technology including BMW's Live Cockpit Professional with two high-res displays. Drivers are also treated to a list of M-tuned upgrades including the suspension, brakes, electronic rear differential and active dampers.
Full details of the US-spec model will be announced on September 18. The first units will begin arriving in US showrooms by spring 2019, with the Z4 M40i First Edition arriving in the second quarter.
