Bentley announces limited-edition, racing-inspired model for Genevaby Ronan Glon
The model will celebrate Bentley's 100th birthday
Bentley turns 100 years old in 2019. The British firm began celebrating its birthday when it released of every model in its line-up in 2018, and it will continue the party at the 2019 Geneva auto show by showing a special, heritage-laced car.
The company released a short teaser video that highlights what it simply bills as "a new Bentley special edition." Though nothing is official yet, it's not too far-fetched to speculate the yet-unnamed car will be based on the Continental GT. It's the model that's best suited to providing the foundation for a racing-inspired car. That means power will come from a mighty 6.0-liter W12 engine.
The video shows the limited-edition car wears a specific grille with the number nine painted in white onto the mesh insert. It also shows footage of the supercharged 4 1/2 Litre Blower that raced in -- but didn't finish -- the 1930 24 Hours of Le Mans. Another Bentley won that year, but it's the Blower that Bentley's next limited-edition model will pay tribute to.
It's unlikely that Bentley would simply paint a nine on the grille and call it a day. We're also expecting a nicer interior, mechanical modifications, and chassis tweaks.
Bentley will release additional information about its Geneva-bound car in the coming weeks, and MG will be live on-location to bring you full information and photos as soon as it's unveiled. That's likely not the last we'll hear about Bentley's 100th birthday. The company turns a century old on July 10, so expect more announcements in the weeks leading up to that date.
