Next Audi Q3 to get hybrid, electric variants?by Ronan Glon
The next Q3 will be a part of Audi\'s electrification strategy.
Details are beginning to emerge about the next generation of Audi's popular Q3 crossover. A recent report suggests the model will be a part of the company's electrification strategy.
A plug-in hybrid drivetrain will be available for the first time in the nameplate's history. It will consist of a new turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a compact electric motor. The two power sources will develop over 200 horsepower, and a lithium-ion battery pack will provide the crossover with at least 30 miles of electric range at speeds of up to 80 mph.
There will also be an all-electric version of the Q3, according to British magazine . The model is being developed largely to comply with strict regulations that will soon come into effect in China. It will use an evolution of the e-Golf's drivetrain, meaning it will offer a 134-horsepower electric motor and a 35.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Total driving range will check in at approximately 186 miles.
Of course, Audi will continue to offer buyers non-electrified powertrain options. In the United States, the base Q3 will likely ship with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder tuned to produce 250 horsepower. Next up will be the SQ3 model, which will receive a 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder rated at about 340 horses.worldcar
The next Audi Q3 has entered its final phase of testing. It's expected to make its public debut at a major auto show in the coming months, and it will go on sale in about a year as a 2019 model.
