Persistent Nissan Frontier Isn’t Fading Away Yet

The Nissan Frontier is as persistent as any vehicle on the market. Even though it needs a complete remodel, sales are still trending up. What will happen when the new-generation pickup arrives?

The 2017 Nissan Frontier just keeps hanging around and it won’t go away. Frontier could be the most persistent vehicle on the market today. Frontier is getting long in the tooth, but it hasn’t slowed sales this summer. The 2018 Nissan Frontier isn’t out yet, and the 2017 model is still selling extremely well.

In July, both the Frontier and new Titan pickups saw huge gains over the previous year’s monthly sales. The aging Frontier was up 5.6 percent (7,647 units) from the 7,244 mid-size pickups it sold last July. The Nissan Titan is up a whopping 231.7 percent over last year’s numbers.

The new 2017 Nissan Titan received a major remodel and it needed it. It now comes with an upgraded 5.6-liter gasoline engine that should help it challenge Ford, Dodge and Chevy. Sales are up and the same could happen when Frontier gets a complete makeover.

Mid-size truck buyers are tired of waiting, but good things are coming for the Frontier too. When the new Frontier does finally arrive, it will get much-needed exterior and interior styling changes along with Nissan’s latest NissanConnect and mobile apps. It should also get the latest fuel saving technology, featuring improved four-cylinder efficiency and increased V6 or V8 towing capacity. It will also get a new 2.8-liter Cummins turbo diesel variant.

Even , the 2017 Nissan Frontier is still selling well. Look for the remodeled Nissan Frontier to be an even bigger player in the competitive mid-size pickup market. The new-generation Frontier will give some real competition to the Toyota Tacoma, and Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon. Stay tuned.
